Dear Scouts, Leaders and Parents,

The 10th Annual Virginia Regional EAA Fly-in will take place at the Dinwiddie County Airport on September 30 - October 1.  This educational, family event, is focused on giving the public the opportunity to learn up close about all sorts of small aircraft and the joy of flying. It is put on by the Virginia Council of EAA Chapters, an IRS 501 (c)3 non-profit corporation with the help of over 200 volunteers.

Last year we had almost 500 aircraft attend during the two days. EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association  www.eaa.org) was founded in 1953 and now has chapters all over the world and a membership of 180,000. At the fly-in we never know exactly who will fly in with their aircraft, but you can bet we will have homebuilts, antiques, classics, war birds, light sport, ultralights and powered parachutes.  If it flies, it will be there.   Here are some of the activities during the weekend:

  • Aviation Forums
  • Aviation Workshops - hands on
  • Youth Tent with hands on activities
  • Control Line Model Aircraft flying circle with instructors
  • Aviation vendors selling aviation related items
  • Aircraft manufacturers showing their new aircraft for sale
  • Aircraft kit manufacturers showing their kits you can build in a garage
  • Aircraft judging of various categories of aircraft
  • A free area on the airport for primitive camping with portable toilets and water available.

In addition there is a Pancake Breakfast from 8-11 am each day in the main hangar as well as other food vendors throughout the day.

If any Scout or Scout Troop wants to volunteer to help out for a minimum of four hours, you must contact Tom Tyndall, Fly-in Scout Coordinator, at tatflys@aol.com or call him at home 804-261-7501 no later than Sept. 18.  Such volunteering will get you free admission and other benefits.
