Come join us for one of
the biggest camping events for Webelos Scouts and Boy Scouts put on by
the Crater District.
Webelos
Woods is designed to give Webelos Scouts an in-depth preview of the Boy Scouting
experience. The program
reinforces Boy Scouting values, procedures, methods and skills. All
Webelos Scouts are invited to participate in Webelos
Woods, through their Pack leader…provided that their moms or dads (or
an adult substitute) accompanies them.
General Information:
Webelos Woods is a Boy Scout Camporee. From the moment they walk
on the property the Webelos are treated like Boy Scouts.
They're expected to work together and take care of themselves. (Of
course, again, we ask each Pack to send a certain number of adults with
them to ensure the boys are safe).
This is a patrol-oriented event.
Patrols will move as a group throughout the weekend. They
will be led by a Boy Scout acting as their Patrol leader. This
event will give them a chance to meet Boy Scouts and swap stories while
learning about “Troop Life”.
And while they're having a great time,
they're learning. They're
learning the skills inherent in their Activity Badges and Scout Skills
programs. They're learning
to trust their abilities and gaining confidence in themselves. They're
learning to work together with other Scouts to achieve a goal. They're
learning to make new friends and to feel more comfortable in new
situations. They're learning
to be better Scouts. And they're learning and practicing skills that
will smooth the trail to First Class once they join a troop.
Who teaches the classes?
One of the goals of our camp is to get the Webelos used to the "boy
led" philosophy of Boy Scouting. Accordingly, our teachers are all
Boy Scouts. Each class is
taught by a teaching team of Boy Scouts and one adult whose
responsibility it is to oversee the materials presented by the Scouts to
ensure their accuracy, to handle questions brought by parents and Cub
leaders and to handle any discipline problems that may arise that are
outside of the abilities of the Boy Scouts (i.e., if a Cub is disruptive
the Boy Scouts will handle that problem. If
the Cub is continually disruptive, the adult team member will take over
the handling of the problem).
Each
participating Troop will be staging an event on Saturday, which will be
visited by the Webelos Scouts throughout the day.
You
will be able to visit the various Troops at their camp sites as
well. (Always ask permission before entering another Camp site.)
This is an excellent opportunity for
your Packs to meet the local Boy Scout Troops, to talk about your transitioning Scouts and to share information about
your Unit and your Cub Scouts.
This
event will be held
Oct. 6th, 7th,
and 8th,
coinciding with the Cub Family Camp
and Olympics, and the Crater Boy Scout Camp out, with assistance from
the OA and our local Troops. (Tigers, Wolves and
Bears will be participating in the Cub Olympics, while the Webelos will
be participating with the Boy Scouts)
You
are invited to come out and camp for the entire weekend, for one night,
or just spend the day with us on Saturday. Camping out will
fulfill some of the requirements for their Arrow of Light Award.
